So ordinarily Christmas pressie shopping is something I put alot of thought into and generally get gifts right (with a few dodgy exceptions). Every year there's always the inevitable few who slip between the cracks and make it onto the Santa dash list to be ticked off over the final few hours of retail insanity. A few tried and trusted simple idea's for those last few gifts before feet should be put up, mulled wine in hand!
1. Framed Photo Such a simple idea and always a winner. You can run off a photo print in 30 secs at print stations in most pharmacies, choose black and white with a thick white mount on your frame for an artsy feel. Great frames along these lines are available from Ikea from as little as €3.50.
2. Homemade Sugar Rush Nothing says thoughtful like the effort of something homemade and you dont need to be Nigella for this one. Rocky Road is a festive favourite, dust with some edible glitter for the season that's in it. Cake boxes in all sorts of colours and sizes are available from Kitchen Compliments on South Anne St. (and more recently Penney's for cupcake boxes), get your hands on some Christmassy ribbon to finish and knock their socks off with your domestic goddess skills! Rocky Road recipe can be found here.3. Afternoon Tea Truth be told I've thieved this idea from a good friend who has got her Mum afternoon tea at The Shelbourne for under the tree, this is such a lovely idea and a great chance to spend some time with your Mum; something nice to look forward to in the new year for both of you and a great idea for best friends and sisters too. The best afternoon tea in Dublin is The Westbury or The Shelbourne, with The Dylan boutique hotel close behind. 4. Fairy Doors If there's a little lady in your life who's slipped your mind so far, check out these magical little fairy doors...complete with a selection of decal stickers to adorn the 'Fairy Door' with. The Irish Fairy Door company will allow you to look online, call in and collect up until today (I kind of want one of these now...!)
5. Adventure Experience And last but not least, the lazy/smart option for any awkward men in your life, from race car driving to parachute jumping he's unlikely to suspect this one and it gives you one less gift to wrap- bonus! Printable e-vouchers for pretty much any experience you can think up are available from Great Days Out.ie Beats socks and jocks any day!
Good luck with tying up any last minute loose ends and enjoy the Christmas countdown madness!
