We’re big fans of high-end beauty and in all honesty until quite recently I probably could have been described as a bit of a beauty snob, particularly when it comes to foundations. But in recent months I’ve been much more open to stepping away from the high end counters (much to my Visa debit cards appreciation) and started to experiment more with what more reasonably priced brands had on offer…and I came across a gem in the form of Rimmel, Wake Me Up foundation.
Offering a medium coverage, this is such a beautiful product for achieving a dewy glow with your base, and when used together with a primer it has decent staying power. It also offers the added protection of having an SPF 15. On first application it reminded me of a very similar base I’ve used in the past- YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation. Having always been a fan of the YSL cult highlighting pen Touche Éclat, the beauty giants foundation version was waited on patiently and its Irish launch back in Summer 2012. It’s nothing short of a gorgeous foundation and ticks all the boxes if dewy teenage supermodel skin is what you’re after including an added bonus of SPF 19 (beware of flashback in photos though).
(Rimmel Wake Me Up in 103 True Ivory swatch alongside YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation in B30- Rimmel being a slightly darker shade than the YSL to match up better with a tan at this time of year).
Of course a premium brand comes with a premium price tag, and you’re looking at €40.00 to add this one to your make up bag- compared to €10.99 for a very similar product with Rimmels, Wake Me Up. Yes, YSL will give you the fabulous gold and glass packaging, is likely to last that bit longer and definitely has that luxury feel to it- but if payday is nowhere close and funds are low, Rimmel Wake Me Up offers a very similar finish for almost €30 less- a beauty bargain if ever there was one!
