This new launch from Maybelline hit the store shelves about a week ago. Having heard rumours from across the Atlantic about the Maybelline Color Drama Velvet Lip Pencils being a dupe for the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils (which are AMAZING, but expensive), I was extremely eager to get my hands on the new highstreet offering!
And fortunately for me, I was not dissapointed! The Nars pencils still feel slightly more luxurious and creamy but that is what you would expect for the hefty price tag. The Maybelline option is a fabulous one if you're on a budget - the pencils are highly pigmented, creamy and easy to apply. They are matte but not drying and quite comfortable to wear. They do not stain the lips as well as their Nars counterparts but last quite well and fade evenly. I find that if I put on a rough layer and buff it into my lips with my finger and then apply a second layer, the colour lasts pretty much all day with minimal touch ups.
I picked up three colours and quite autumnal ones at that! First up is the brightest of the three: Light it up, a gorgeous bright red. I love this shade, its one of those that will suit most skin tones.
Next up, my favourite of the bunch: Berry Much. This one is a rich, intense plum / berry shade and I feel I will get a lot of wear out of it this season. It can be worn quite boldly or just lightly patted into the lips for a subtle berry stain. I'm a huge fan of the 'I've-just-been-eating-berries' kinda look!
Finally, my third pick: Red Essential. As the name says, it's a classic red that everyone should have in their collection. It's a good bit darker than Light it up and has a slight cherry tint. It's absolutely beautiful! I love wearing reds like these quite casually, with some jeans and a wooly jumper or simple t-shirt.
There are 10 shades in total in this collection, they are priced at €6.79 and are a fabulous, affordable option if you love your matte lip colours!
Huge thumbs up from me!
Have you tried any of these? Which shade is your favourite?
