Despite the lukewarm (at best) temperature’s, summer has officially arrived and I remain confidently optimistic that our heatwave is just around the corner. In line with my blind optimism on the weather front, I’m all about summer beauty trends. Here’s my top three beauty trends for this summer...
Return of the Red Lip For years I was on team nude lip, seeing anything more pigmented as a little too ‘done’ for me. It’s now one of my favorite faces, not paired up with a cat flicked gel liner but instead with a dewy base, defined lashes and messy hair. Parisian chic in two minutes flat. Topshop Unique, D&G & Missoni were all firmly on board with variations of a summer red lip during their SS15 shows, following an AW where the nude lip reigned. Mac Lady Danger and Bourjois Rouge Edition Lip Velvet in Personne Ne Rouge are my current red lip picks.
Glow On Matte is out and sheeny skin is in. This is one of my all-time favorite faces, although be weary if you’re in a situation where flash photography is being used- it’s always a wild card as to how the shine will show-up on camera. There’s something gorgeously fresh and youthful about a full on dewy look, with full-commitment from Marc Jacobs & Karen Millen on the highlighting front, opting for full on shine over a subtle glow. The Balm Mary Lou Manizer gives a gorgeous dewy glow and nothing beats MAC strobe cream for a full on runway sheen (looks amazing on collar bones and shoulders too!).
Beachy Boho Waves Kind of a given come this time of year, but relaxed, undone festival hair is the way to go during the summer months. Anna Sui & Tommy Hilfiger were but two of the fashion big guns to embrace seventies style festival waves, and the low maintenance element of this kind of ‘do’ earns massive brownie points in my book (I loathe hairdryers). I’ve a natural wave to my hair so can achieve this one pretty easily, my favorite products to use are Revlon Uniq One on wet hair and a little Moroccan Oil to help give a healthy finish. If you've naturally straighter locks then try this little trick to add some movement and body.
