Eye makeup right now is all about the nudes. Off the back of Urban Decay's Naked palette hysteria other big brands have followed suit, and it seems we can’t get enough. I am definitely a nude girl when it comes to eyes, I’m not against an intense eye but heavy colour just ain’t my thing. And so it was mixed feelings I initially tried out the new Lancôme Grandiôse eyeshadow palette.
The predominant tone here is my all-time favorite nudey bronze, but with an unexpected pop of electric blue. In a nude palette….bizarrely genius. Working a fine hint of electric blue into the outer crease of my usual bronze smoky eye changes the whole look in a great edgy nod-to-colour way, as opposed to a full on blue eye (which, as much as I love eighties nostalgia, won’t be happening anytime soon).
I love this Saphir Mirifique blue. It’s deep enough with a great metallic shimmer to pop perfectly against more natural nudes. Handily they include an application guide to suggest where each shadow works best. A small brush and foam applicator are included, which for me are in-case-of-emergency only, I need my full-sized decent brushes.
With a mix of matte and shimmer, the pigment is good on these shadows and staying power also rates well. Grandiôse Intense mascara has launched alongside these shadows, with the coolest 25 degree ‘swan-neck’ wand I’ve seen in a while. The idea being the tilted axis allows it to twist around facial curves for perfect application. I’m not generally a fan of any gimmicky applicators, but as an awkward lefty I like this one!
Lancômes Grandiôse Intense Colour range is exclusive to Arnotts, Debenhams & Brown Thomas on counters from this month, priced €49, with Grandiôse Intense mascara €30.
