Hair is without doubt the biggest of all the beauty chores in my book. I've long hair that's naturally quite curly - actually they're more voluminous waves than curls. Literally the only thing that will pry my heat styling tools out of my clammy overworked hands is a dip in salty sea water. The magical properties of sea water are something I've found hard to recreate in the overcast 'burbs of Dublin, but Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray is about as close as you can get.
Divide wet hair into sections and create twists with each section (just using your fingers, no fancy tools needed) and spritz with this Bumble & Bumble gem before leaving hair to air dry. Easy. It's also one I pack into my suitcase to give a little beachy-oomph to hair post beach before heading for an evening of Pina Coladas.
This 50ml travel bottle is perfect for travelling or even just trialing if you don't want to fork out for the full size without giving it a shot on your own hair first. Available from larger Boots stores for a bargain of €13.50.
There are two kinds of girls in the world; those who wash their hair everyday, and the rest of us. I sit firmly on team dry shampoo for many reasons. Firstly the time involved in getting my hair from wet to publicly acceptable takes much to long to work into my daily routine. Secondly there is bleach in my hair and I heat style, so the less I traumatise my tresses with my Babyliss Big Hair, the better. And finally, my hair actually genuinely looks better when not freshly washed. Dirty hair, don't care... literally.
I discovered Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder Dry Shampoo on a recent trip to New York, where the stateside electrical current gives my hairdryer all the powder of a public toilet hand-dryer. This is pretty fancy for a dry shampoo, in a gorgeous iridescent gold that is perfect for blondes. It also doubles up brilliantly as a backcombing powder to add a little volume and texture. Ideal if beachy waves are the goal, but sleek straight hair is the reality (in which case I hate you). I got mine in Sephora, but the larger 56g bottle is available from Boots online, €28.90.
Finally the latest addition to my beach hair essentials is Evolve Nourishing Hair Elixir, €21.50 from Evolve Beauty. This stuff is full of natural argan and baobab oils, and smells just gorgeous. Tread lightly here, 3-4 drops is more than enough - I got over-enthusiastic my first use and the result was a little on the oil-slick side.
A couple of drops will make a noticeable difference to sun damaged hair, adding nourishment which really helps keep frizz at bay. Essential when defining a wave or curl when creating or recreating beach babe hair. What are you favourite summer hair products?
