First Look | YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation

I’m a sucker for the next Holy Grail foundation. I’m also a sucker for ridiculously beautiful packaging. Meaning I’m a complete and utter sucker for YSL’s latest Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation.

If you’re new to the whole cushion foundation concept, it’s followed on from where the Korean Skincare trend left off and takes the form of a ‘cushion’ soaked in perfecting light BB cream style liquid, housed in a compact - in the case of YSL’s latest, housed in a beautiful black and gold compact worthy of a jewelry box (which is also refillable).

The real difference in a cushion foundation when compared to more traditional western foundations is the consistency of the formula itself. Liquid like but contained within a compact by way of a product soaked cushion/sponge, the formula literally melts into skin providing it’s properly colour matched- so much so, that it’s difficult to actually see the product in the above swatch image (shade 50 shown here).

Skincare is king in South Korea, and with that in mind, cushion foundations were designed with a skincare element. Generally very hydrating with a decent SPF, the aim of a Cushion foundation is to perfect your skin with a sheer veil of pigment as opposed to a complete full coverage masking effect. Think your own skin, but better.

The one tip with this compact is that the formula does come out quite quickly, so work very lightly with the sponge applicator. The beauty of this compact is there’s a handy internal lid to close over once you’re finished, preventing product from spilling out and being absorbed by the applicator sponge.

The finish is soft with a light coverage that can be built up to medium. It's particularly beautiful if you can spare the time to do some detail concealing on imperfections, blemishes or scars. The formula is enriched with precious volatile oils that really hydrate the skin and keep the colour looking fresh.

YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation is of course one that falls into the luxe beauty category priced at €50,00, but also a foundation that delivers on all fronts. Definitely one to try if fresh-faced day to day coverage is what you’re after. YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation is available at YSL counters nationwide.
