MAC Makeup Summer Staples

MAC-Summer-Makeup.jpg

There’s something about seasonal makeup that I love, and in particular summer makeup (although given we are in Ireland I use the term summer lightly..!). I guess it’s sort of like updating your wardrobe and marks the end of one chapter of the year and the beginning of a new one. Summer makeup for me is always all about fresh dewy skin, soft pinks and peaches and clean defined brows and lashes.

I recently got to spend a session with MAC guru herself Lesley Keane, who worked some serious magic on my dehydrated, dull and just generally tired skin. on a side note, I hadn’t given much thought to any MAC skincare products - primer aside. Having tried them and being an absolute skincare snob, I loved the end result - well worth popping in to try.

I’m a longtime MAC enthusiast and am always surprised when I find a product that I’m not already using. Lesley showed me some gorgeously soft spring/summer makeup additions that have become staples in my day-to-day makeup bag.

Foundation

First up is foundation. I’ve gone through phases of studio fix and back in the day Hyper Real (Anyone else remember that disco ball sheen?!) but my current MAC favourite is Face & Body. But then I got to try their new kid on the block, MineralizeFoundation (NC30) and immediately became a little hooked. My obsessive skincare geeking is paying off and my skin is in relatively good condition at the minute, so full coverage isn’t my only option right now. It provides a gorgeous buildable coverage for this time of year. Its also a particularly lovely one for everyday wear if you have dry or dull skin.

Eyes

If you’re not an eye-shadow prep girl that needs to change. I speak from experience here. The difference in both pigment payoff and staying power is huge when you prep your lids, and MAC Paint Pots have been a staple for me for a while now when it comes to lid priming. I’ve a selection of neutrals and in all honesty probably would never have gone for the blush tone of Perky Paint Pot (although I'd be easily swayed by the cute name). Having tried, I love! It’s delicate and goes gorgeously with a soft pink or peachy cheek. I would generally still work a shadow over the crease, but it makes a fantastic delicate base.

Contour

My final newest addition is a contour product but not as you know it - a little off-label use because I'm gangsta like that. I dabble in the world of contouring. I bought the Anastasia contour palette in NY last year to use as an eye shadow palette – clearly I like my contour as simple as possible! Lesley pulled out Prep + Prime BB Cream in a deep tone and worked it into cheek bones, up around the hairline and jawline and presto – the result is gorgeously natural. I don’t think this would work as well with a dark foundation, but the lightness of the BB cream blended beautifully and it’s my new go-to contour technique.

On a side-note, I’m also loving MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish in Beaming Blush, for the quickest most gorgeous highlight and Cremesheen Lipstick in Koi Coral for a pop of springtime peachy pink on lips. Being a lustre finish there’s no drying out, which is the perfect alternative to a heavy winter matte.

What new summer additions are you adding to your makeup bag this time of year?
