Red Lips

I love a red lip.  I particularly love wearing red lipstick when it gets cold and dark outside, with a big jumper or wooly scarf and as it happens this seems to be a massive trend this autumn/winter.

A big favourite of mine is the ombre lip style, very dark in the corners and lighter towards the centre of the lips. It is a particualry good look for those of us with not too full lips as it makes your mouth appear bigger.  It's really quite easy to do and looks very effective and modern.

Some things you will need:

  • lip exfoliator (a bit of lip balm and a Q-tip gently rubbed on your lips will do but I used Lush's Mint Julips) & lip balm if you need it (I do need it, my lips are very dry and I used Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream)
  • dark red pencil or lipstick (I used MAC lip pencil in Currant)
  • a lighter lipstick (mine is a Topshop one in Mischief)
  • a lip brush (this is a Real Techniques one)

It is really quite easy, put the dark colour in the corners of your lips and blend it in with your lip brush. Then use your lighter colour in the centre and blend the two colours together so that there is no harsh lines and the shades blend into each other seamlessly.

I usually blot my lips with a tissue at the very end, I love a matte finish. Have a go at this and let me know how you got on!
