2014 where have you gone? Blink and you missed it! Now it might be just us, but this seemed to have been a very quick year, but a great one too (Image award anyone?!) As always, there were some hits and some misses on the trend front, brace yourself for a little nostalgia with our run through of the beauty and style that shaped 2014.
Without doubt the style of 2014 has to have been the lob, or long bob. This is one of the most versatile styles, suiting most face shapes and gorgeous style with a soft wave and blunt ends. Some of the best Lob enthusiasts from 2014 include Lauren Conrad, Olivia Palmero, Karlie Kloss and Alexa Chung. One we’d definitely consider getting the chop for.
Having dabbled a little in my teens, I never thought I’d see the day nail art made a credible return, but 2014 brought just that. With a host of nail wraps on offer for the lazy and artistically challenged, mini-masterpieces have never been easier or hotter. From animal prints, to crystals and logos, anything goes. Ciaté are the nail innovators with their nail cavier and chalkboard nails pushing our nail polish habit over the edge.
Both SS14 and AW14 saw the bold lip stay on trend. The warmer months were all about a colour pop of bright pink or coral (often with a semi-nude face) warming up to deeper berry and wintery red throughout the autumn and winter. This is something that drugstore brands very much picked up on, with some amazing long-lasting lip stains rolling out this year giving the high-end beauty brands some decent competition- Bourjois Lip Velvets and Maybelline Colour Drama Intense Lip Pencils to name a couple.
Just when we’d perfected our dewy glow Matte is back. Bold lips and nails were teamed with very natural coverage complete with a matte finish at the likes of Chloe, Valentino & Vera Wang- not overly powdered or chalky, just sans the dewy accents we’d come to expect. As lovely as this look is I’m not going to be parting with my highlighter any time soon! If you’re a Matte kinda girl then Nars Sheer Matte foundation offers a soft matter finish with buildeable coverage, while Rimmel Stay Matter offers a good budget friendly alternative.
It's always a kind of exciting for beauty junkies like ourselves to see what SS15 beauty trends actually manage to stick come the new year, and Id really like to see the Lob and bold lip stick around for at least a little while longer. Let us know your 2015 beauty trend predictions in the comments!
