3 Wearable Spring Wardrobe Updates

We get one sunny day and I’m all 99’s and flip flops. My inner beach bum really struggles with our climate sometimes. Single sunny day aside, we are mid-March and I’m pretty sure that’s officially springtime which means summer is a mere stone’s throw away. So it’s perfect timing to start thinking about your spring/summer wardrobe updates. See how I just justified a sunny day as reason enough to hit the shops? It’s a talent, I know.

So amidst all the SS17 noise, there are three key trends popping up at press previews time & time again that’ll drag your wardrobe out of winter mode pronto. I personally believe in splurging the big bucks on non-trend pieces; handbags, the perfect pair of Chelsea boots or jeans that don’t body shame you (vintage Levi 501’s you know who I’m talking about) and keeping to a more modest budget on trend based pieces.

1. Ruffles

Ah ruffles, how I love thee. We saw hints of the ruffle trend making its way into the high-street last year but nothing on the scale of the ruffle-fest that is 2017. The general ruffle trend is often paired up with either a stripe or gingham combo and often with a bell sleeve thrown in for good measure. The likes of Topshop and ASOS have some great options, not forgetting and trusty old Penney’s hun. My personal favourite is the knitwear ruffle combos the H&M have rolled out this season, very wearable and cute as a button – special shout out goes to the dusty pink cold-shoulder ruffle number, which is all sorts of gorgeous.

2. Slip-On Loafers

I sit firmly on the fence on these. Agreed they do look pretty chic with the right Jean but purely on practicality grounds I fear for my life. If you’re more of a daredevil than me and laugh in the face of a backless shoe, then it’s worth checking out River Island for pops of pink and Aldo for a more everyday version.

3. Peek-a-Boo Bra’s

Gorgeously lacy bras are everywhere right now, some complete with built in choker embellishments, cut outs and embroidery. The idea is to show them off. Not in a full on topless vibe but with a tasteful & intentional flash beneath a shirt or a sheer top. Being a longstanding member of the small chest brigade, I love these delicate lacy numbers – however I’m all too aware of how lacking they are in the support dept. if you’re a little more blessed up top. Penney’s have come up trumps on this trend with some gorgeously luxe inspired lingerie for buttons. Topshop have a decent selection also with &  Other Stories well worth a look too.
