Interior Inspiration: Springtime Accents

Seleciton of Mason Jars available from Etsy Springtime has arrived, or at least on our calendars! On this wet, grey Monday it’s hard not to feel a little hard done by on the springtime front. Dreary weather aside, this is the perfect time of year to do a little interior overhaul and add a pop of colour into the mix. There are a few easy & cost effective ways to do this without fully committing to that cerise pink wall.

Soft furnishings are a great option. Soft wool blankets, bright raw silk bolster cushions and throw pillows are small enough to commit to in bold patterns and bright colours, and can provide an accent that can change a whole room. Gallery wall updates with brighter prints & artwork is another way to inject a little colour easily and can be swapped out once the seasons change.

Spring florals involve the least commitment and are possibly the most beautiful seasonal touch. Mason jars, vintage teacups and milk bottles will always beat your run of the mill vase hands down! Etsy do a great selection of mason jars, not just in the usual clear glass but also in various paint dipped pastels and rose gold versions (although I love being able to double up the clear ones as cocktail glasses & candle holders).

Bright china tableware accents and table runners are brilliant for occasions like Easter lunch, and seeing as they’re not on display all of the time you can go as boldly patterned as you like. Pair these up with some mason jar florals for a gorgeously eclectic style. My springtime accents wishlist looks a little like this:

Apartment Therapy: Autumn Accents

titlepic

As the days get shorter and evenings a little longer, there’s a seasonal change novelty factor to oversized scarves, knitwear binges and loungewear of the snuggly variety. My inner hermit takes over this time of year and I love nothing more than cosying up indoors. I’ll still guilt trip myself into the occasional Saturday morning run in exchange for farmers market coffee & cake (gluten free, doesn’t count) but if presented with my social options for an evening’s entertainment, staying in will win hands down.

I’m all too aware that the autumnal novelty of new fluffy white slipper booties and hot drinks will hit a turning point, usually somewhere around mid-winter, and be replaced with loathing the necessity to layer up for practicalities sake, together with a general disdain for anything less than tropical temperatures as I watch my icy fingertips turn a purplish-blue.

But for now, while the temperatures are gradually leaning toward the cool side and the novelty of new knitwear lines on the high-street is still fresh, I’m embracing all things autumnal starting with our living space. I love to add seasonal accents to our living space, which takes on a much grander scale come silly season. I love to dress a space with chunky soft furnishings to warm it up and in the absence of a fireplace (sad face) I use a lot of lanterns and candles. I tend to move away from bright colour’s as we leave summer behind and love more earthy tones and neutrals. Here are a few of my favourites right now:

The Copper Collection

Like most people, I can't begin a morning without a cup of coffee, partly because of the much needed caffeine but most of all because making it is a bit of a ritual to me and feels therapeutic. I used to make my coffee in a very noisy machine at home which was great but ever since I have discovered The Copper Collection I have been loving filtered coffee and my gorgeous copper stand looks fab in my kitchen! Did I mention the stand is copper?!!

The talented ladies behind The Copper Collection, Danielle & Deirbhile, create hand crafted pour over / filtered coffee stands for coffee shops, at home baristas and lovers of modern lifestyle and decor. Copper is all the rage in interior design at the moment and the coffee stands will make your kitchen look instantly stylish. They also make fantastic birthday / wedding / house warming gifts.

The Copper Collection

If you are a lifestyle and decor enthusiast or even just a fan of pretty shiny things, make sure to check out The Copper Collection website and social media! Their Instagram account is to die for!

The brewing of filtered coffee comes from Japan and is a lovely process. It doesn't take long and it produces a wonderful, flavourful cup of coffee. I love how tactile the whole experience is!

Gold & Copper: A H&M Home Haul

Gold & Copper: A H&M Home HaulH&M Home is one of my favourite places to shop for accessories for my house. Their designs are fantastic and, most importantly, very, very affordable. So while I was in London last time I picked up a few bits and pieces.

Copper: A H&M Home HaulThe one downside to H&M Home is that they haven't opened in Ireland yet and other than traveling to the UK (or one of the other countries they have outlets in) there is no way of getting your hands on these goodies. Even my trusty Parcel Motel didn't work as H&M home don't deliver to post box addresses. So once I got to London I made sure I had enough suitcase space to pick up a few bits.

Golden Cake Stand £9.99 This cake stand is just gorgeous and will cakes look fab but would also make for great makeup or jewelery storage unit on a dressing table.

Copper Wire Basket £7.99 I had my eye on this for ages and am so happy I picked it up. The basket lives in my bathroom and houses my guest and towels. I actually regret not getting a couple more of these! They are a great size and would be fab for office storage as well.

Cushion Cover (similar) £12.99 I am obsessed with cushions and can't hep myself when I see a pattern I like. It took me ages to choose just one as pretty much all of the cushion covers in H&M Home are amazing. I will be picking up more when I can!

Tea Towel £2.99 These are really cheap and have great patterns - a really easy way to add a bit of interest to the kitchen.

Let's hope H&M Home open in Ireland soon, there's a ton more things I want to buy! What is your favourite place to shop when decorating on a budget?

Interiors Trend: Gold Accents

Gold Interior Accessories

Gold is my thing. Delicate gold jewellery features heavily on my wish list at the minute, but I also can’t get enough of gold interiors. I’m not talking Vegas style full-on opulence and I can promise there are no gold plated life-sized lions sitting either side of my front door… I’m talking gold accents here and there especially in a clean white space, to create the most gorgeous focal points. Prints with metallic gold lettering in clean white frames add another dimension to gallery walls and you can’t deny there’s something a bit special about everyday mundane objects when they’re gold; nothing spells Pinterest-chic quite like a gold plated stapler! Now that I've made my case for the gold corner, here are a few of my favourite gold interior accents…
