Quick Pamper Session | H&M Beauty Face Masks

HM Face Masks Pink Elephant Blog

H&M Beauty is still a bit of a new discovery for us... It recently however hit the shelves in the H&M Flagship Store on Dame Street and I for one could not help myself! The packaging of their products is incredible and it turns out that the products inside are pretty amazing too! So, let's start with the H&M Face Masks.

Cucumber & Aloe

This is a mask that is made for tired skin and is gentle cucumber and aloe peel-off mask. It removes daily dirt and grime, leaving skin feeling refreshed and cleansed. It's amazing after you've been traveling and your skin feels tired and congested.

Liquorice & Sugar

This one is fantastic for more oily skin that is slightly on the dehydrated side. It has small beads of natural sugar that buff away dead skin cells, while sweet almond oil and olive oil replenish your skin's moisture levels.

Witch Hazel

One of my favourite ingredients in skincare! This mask is a natural clay mask with rosemary and tea leaf helps. It's designed to cleanse the skin and reduce unwanted oils, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and clear. Definitely more suited towards oily and combination skin, absolutely brilliant for that once a month big cleanse!

Spearmint & Ehinacea

I love a nice peel off mask, especially in the summer when my skin can get quite grimey and yucky feeling. This mask is a purifying one and contains fentain root extract which is supposed to help with blemish prone skin.

All in all these masks get a massive thumbs up from me! They all work really well and are a pleasure to use. They are all 10ml which means they are single use (I quite like that, makes them perfect for traveling!). When you calculate the price per use (2.99) they are probably not the cheapest face masks out there but you have the flexibility of getting several different ones rather than using the same old boring face mask every time.

I can totally recommend these! If you haven't given them a go just yet pick up a couple next time you're in H&M, you won't regret it! I am going to stock up on lots of new ones to try this week!

Have you ever tried any cosmetics from H&M Beauty?

3 Trends I Won't Be Getting On Board With

Trends.jpg

3 Trends I Won't Be Getting On Board WithTrends... something that I am never quite sure of. I don't consider myself particularly trendy - my first priority in everything is comfort, so that excludes a multitude of really fashionable things from my repertoire. Some trends I've absolutely loved through! I bought a fuzzy coat a la Gwen Stefani, lots of crop tops and I am really keen on some of those bomber jackets that are around right now. But these three are just some I will definitely be giving a miss...

3 Trends I Won't Be Getting On Board WithOne: Brown Lipstick

This is a funny one. I've seen brown lippy look amazing on some girls but it's just something that does not work on me at all. I don't know if it's my skin tone but I looked horrendous (HORRENDOUS!) every time I tried! I could possibly pull of a browny shade of burgundy but that's about it! *Sighs*

3 Trends I Won't Be Getting On Board With

Two: Coriander

It is in everything! To be fair, I really, really tried to like it but no, I just can't get on board with the coriander thing. It makes everything taste of vile soap. I am not a fussy eater by any means (raw beef, fermented cabbage.. no bother!) and I will try everything at least once. I think I have given coriander its chance, it just won't be happening between us.

3 Trends I Won't Be Getting On Board With

Three: Coffin Shaped Nails

Now this is one that I really don't get. Coffin shaped anything is definitely not my thing! To be completely honest I just don't like long nails full stop - it all comes back to the main criterion, comfort! With nails like these I don't think I would be able to function - how do you even open and close your jeans? There must be some serious skills involved!

Are there any trends you can't get your head around?

Travel Beauty | In Flight Essentials

null.jpg

Travel Beauty V1

When it comes to air travel, there are a few little tips and tricks that make all the difference in keeping your skin looking half decent and you comfortable, especially when flying long haul. Being a cold creature I basically turn hypothermic within about an hour of taking off. Having learned the hard way, I now always pack thick bed socks and my favorite chunky jumper in my hand luggage. I’m a big fan of oversized scarves (H&M do some great ones right now) that can double up as a soft blanket on flights too.

When it comes to In-flight beauty, I’m not quite at the stage of rocking up to the airport bare-faced and ready to go, but I have learned to keep it to the basic beauty essentials and bring some really nourishing moisture-rich bits along for the ride. I’ve dry skin on a good day, and as my fellow dry-skinned lovelies will understand, flying does no favours for our skin type.

I’ll generally try to avoid silicone primers, heavy foundations and strong lip colours when flying long haul. Instead going for lighter BB creams and tinted nourishing lip balms. My skin definitely needs room to breathe or I’ll pay the price with a fabulous holiday breakout on arrival.

Earlier this week I done a mammoth long-haul slog from Mexico to Philadelphia onto our Emerald Isle, relying on these beauty superstars to keep my skin hydrated along the way:

(null)

(Clockwise from Top Left)

Ellie Goulding for MAC Lip Crayon, €21.00 | A lip colour that combines the sheen of a gloss with the precision of a lip pencil and in my favourite pinky nude shade, so perfect when you're practically bare faced. Lovely moisturising formula too so perfect for flying.

Yogandha Roller Oil in Grapefruit and Bergamot, €19.95, Harvey Nichols | An uplifting aromatherapy fix in a handy handbag sized roller-ball. I love applying this to pulse points, the fragrance is gorgeously refreshing without being overly citrus or sharp.

L'Occitane Precious BB Cream, €35.00 | Lovely, light coverage with a gorgeously nourishing consistency. Like my own skin, but that bit better!

Clinique Moisture Surge Melting Mask, €33.50 | I always apply this the evening before and after a long-haul flight for some seriously restorative moisturising  love. Not one for everyday use but it's just the ticket for dried out, lacklustre skin.

L’Occitane Precious Mist Immortelle,  €17.50 | The most gorgeous hydrating mist to refresh you when you've been sitting in the one spot for ten hours! Yes a little pricier than your Evian mist, but with floral water, soothing alpha-bisabolol and plumping hyaluronic acid its worth it.

Urban Decay High Definition Loose Powder €30.00, Debenhams | I picked this up at Debenhams pre-honeymoon to take care of my shiny t-zone issues and I love it. So fine and silky, there's a lovely luminescent finish that prevents that powdery caked look.

L'Occitane Hand Creme €16.50 | This scent, Arlesienne, is limited edition and no longer available, however I just cant get enough of all the L'Occitane hand creams. They're so nourishing and absorb in seconds. The perfect handbag size for travel too.

Have you any travel beauty favourites you can't live without?

MAC Burgundy Times Nine Palette

IMG_9732-copy.jpg

MAC Burgundy Times Nine

The MAC Times 9 palettes were a highly anticipated launch and both Becky & I are so delighted that these babies are finally in our makeup bags! The Burgundy Times Nine* is the one I was lusting after since some of the pre-launch photos have been cropping up all over the internet. Although, I will probably get some of the other ones as well.

The Times Nine palettes were recently launched into MAC's permanent collection. There's 4 palettes in total: Burgundy, Amber, Purple & Navy - all beautiful!

I love the shades in the Burgundy palette, I have green eyes and anything purple, wine-coloured or reddish makes my eyes a much brighter green. Having said that these shades would look great on all eye colours!

MAC Burgundy Times Nine

So, let's get down to the nitty-gritty: there's nine eye shadows in this palette, a mix of mattes, satins and shimmers. Some of the shades are permanent, some were previously limited edition and some are brand new. As is usual with MAC the quality of the shadows is lovely, the mattes are soft and blendable and there isn't much fallout from the more shimmery shades.

The shadows are smaller than the regular MAC single eye shadows but that's actually something I like as it makes the palette compact and portable. The palette costs €40 which I think is good value for a MAC eye shadow palette with this many shades in it.

The shades

MAC Burgundy Times Nine

Honey Lust – coppery-gold lustre (permanent) Poppyseed – warm mauve nude satin Quarry – warm plum brown nude matte (permanent) Antiqued – warm bronzey brown veluxe pearl (permanent) Embark – dark reddish brown matte (permanent) #Noir – black-brown with golden glitter velvet Haux – rose-nude satin (permanent) Star Violet – bronze plum veluxe pearl (permanent) Sketch – matte burgundy with red shimmer (permanent)

I am in love with this palette and am really looking forward to wearing darker autumnal looks now that the weather is turning colder.

If you haven't yet, make sure you check out the Times Nine palettes on your MAC counter. If you have, I'd love to know, which one is your favourite?

Coffee Table Reads: Darling Magazine

DM-featured.jpg

Darling Magazine

I have been obsessed with Darling Magazine for quite some time now and I was so excited to find out that I can get it shipped to my home here in Ireland through this amazing new site called KIOZQ. KIOZQ is an Irish site that supports independently published magazines and aims to preserve printed media. The people behind KIOZQ are passionate about content and stock some fabulous collectible coffee table magazines such as Betty, Kinfolk, Life & Thyme and of course Darling.

Darling Magazine

Darling is not just any old magazine you throw in the bin after you are done. It is quite an aspirational piece of art with breathtaking photography and excellently written content. Their mission is (in their own words) to "hold the modern mold of woman up to the fire to evoke a discussion on femininity and re-shape an authentic design. Darling is... the art of being a woman".

I love Darling magazine for exactly that: it's authentic, thought-provoking and inspiring. The photography throughout the entire magazine is absolutely beautiful and makes me want to look at it over and over again. It covers everything from fashion, beauty to cooking and travel. On a more shallow note, it looks great and makes a great fabulous to my coffee table!

Darling Magazine Darling Magazine Darling Magazine Darling Magazine Darling Magazine Darling Magazine Darling Magazine

Darling magazine, like most magazines of this type, is not cheap - it will set you back €25 per issue. It is however a collectible, more along the lines of a fancy coffee table book rather than a glossy magazine that you only ever flick through once. Don't get me wrong, I sill very much enjoy Vogue, Elle or Glamour magazine but every now and then it's nice to read something that challenges me and broadens my horizons.

You can buy Darling magazine through KIOZQ and get it delivered for free if you live on the island of Ireland.

Have you ever read Darling? What is your favourite indie magazine?

Our eBay Collections

Screen Shot 2014-11-25 at 14.12.03We love eBay - it's the treasure trove of online shopping and many a great find in our wardrobes and homes came from there! Whether we're sourcing vintage cocktail glasses, crates or an LBD, eBay is our first port of call. So imagine our excitement when we found out about the brand new Collections feature!

The Winter Edit eBay Collection

It's a brilliant concept: you can select items from eBay and display them on a sort of themed pin board. We use inspiration & mood boards all the time, especially when preparing bigger shoots or videos for Pink Elephant Blog, and love being able to pin down entire looks. What makes this even better is that the entire Collection is "shoppable" so we can always go back and pick up the things we need. You can also follow the many beautiful Collections created by others - this is particularly helpful when you are on the hunt for something specific (we found some amazing party accessories here)! This ads a fun, creative and interactive element to shopping.

Ebay Edit

We have created a few of our own collections all inspired by winter and the fast approaching silly season - you can check them out here.

Have you tried eBay Collections yet? If you're a fan of shopping, you will love it!
