There is nothing more enjoyable than a long hot bath when you're stressed or had a long day in the office! There is just something super relaxing about the entire ritual and it can only be made better by some beautifully scented bath salts. You can buy them but the home made ones are so much nicer and extremely easy to make! This DIY makes a fabulous inexpensive gift (amazing for when you need something cool in a hurry).

DIY Relaxing Lavender Bath Salts

All you will need is:

1kg Epsom Salts 30-40 drops of lavender oil a handful of dried lavender flowers a jar

I usually keep these ingredients on hand so that I can whip up a batch of this if I need one. All you have to do is fill the jar about half way up with Epsom salts, put in your lavender oil and dried flowers and shake vigorously. Add the rest of the salts and shake again to combine. If your jar is very full you may need to give everything a mix with a spoon.

If lavender is not your thing you can substitute the essential oils for whatever you like - rose would be amazing! And if you are feeling creative try some scent combos such as lemon and rosemary or orange and thyme.

Mother's Day Edit | Blooms on a Budget

Mother's Day Edit | Blooms on a Budget

Flowers are one of our favourite things and whatever the occasion they're always a great gift. Unfortunately, they can also work out to be very expensive. As Mothers Day is approaching bouquet prices are rising and you are looking at about €40 - €50 even for sad looking supermarket blooms. If you also have an in-law you are buying for the expense can be quite terrifying.

So in true Pink Elephant Blog fashion we are showing you how to do fabulous blooms on a budget! Once again we've partnered up with our favourite stylist Jette Virdi to show you that creating your own beautiful bouquets is easy and your Mum will love the thought and effort you put in!

The most important thing to know is where to shop. Rather than going to a florist or supermarket go to a flower market or wholesaler. Our favourite spot in Dublin is Joseph Duffy & Sons in the Victorian flower and fruit market in Mary's Lane, Smithfield. For our arrangements we bought 3 bunches of blooms: pink ranunculus (the main flowers), white wax flower (filler) and ruscus (foliage) which altogether came to €20 and makes 3 medium sized bunches.

All you will need for the project are your flowers of choice, some twine or gold wire (which is what we used) & a good scissors. There are no rules here, just have fun but if you're unsure here's our Pinterest board full of great inspiration.

Creative: ranunculus + wax flowers + ruscus

This is a slightly fuller, more boho version of the first bouquet. We used wax flower to make the whole thing more voluptuous and the effect is really beautiful.

Christmas Perfection: The YSL Wildly Gold Palette

YSL Wildly Gold PaletteA little while ago we wrote about a great budget eyeshadow palette for Christmas from NYX. Today we are bringing you the complete opposite of the spectrum - the YSL limited edition Wildly Gold palette. It's one of the most beautifully packaged make-up items I have seen in a long time and has already been added to my letter to Santa.

Cara Delavigne for YSL Wildly Gold Campaign

The YSL Christmas campaign certainly doesn't disappoint this year - the gorgeous Cara Delavigne is sporting a sultry smokey cat eye with an intense pink lip. It just screams Christmas & New Year's party to me! The Wildly Gold palette from the collection is a great all-rounder, perfect for the handbag during the busy holiday season. It contains four beautiful eye shadows: a sparkly black and bronze, a pure yellow gold and a pale silver highlight. Also included is a pale pink blush and two lip colours: a glossy pink Rouge Volupté Sheer Candy and a Rouge Pur Couture Fuschia.

The packaging of the palette is out of this world: black leather with gold leopard print and a satin tassel - certainly something every girl would be delighted to find under the tree!

The palette coming from a luxury brand like YSL, unfortunately,  comes with a hefty price tag of €85 but if you are looking for a special present for a make-up lover or even treating yourself, this is the one to go with this season!

Have you already seen the collection on counter? If not, definitely take a peek!

Afternoon Tea Perfection at Ariel House

Afternoon Tea | Ariel House

The absolutely best way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon is at Afternoon Tea, as we found out recently sitting in a cosy conservatory of the beautiful Ariel House in Dublin's Lansdowne Road. Becky and I are huge fans of Afternoon Tea (it's our inner Downton Abbey speaking) and always on a lookout for a great place to have it.

Ariel House is a gorgeous guest house, situated in the very heart of Dublin and if you haven't yet heard of it, we recommend you to treat yourself and sample the beautiful Afternoon Tea on offer. There is a selection of gorgeous, homemade bite sized savouries and cakes served on the most beautiful china alongside multiple cups of tea. The service in Ariel House is second to none and we enjoyed every second of that rainy Sunday afternoon! In fact, we are already looking for excuses to go back.

Afternoon Tea | Ariel House If you have an occasion coming up or need a present for your mum, girlfriend, granny... anyone really, or you are simply looking for things to do in Dublin, we highly recommend you check out the Afternoon Tea in Ariel House. It is amazing value at only €19.50 and at the same time a decadent and unforgettable experience.

Ariel House have been, deservedly so, nominated for the Hotel and Catering Review Award in the Best Value for Money category (which they totally are, we basically ate our body weight in cake!!). We have already voted for them! If you would like to cast your vote you can do so here! It is one of the nicest Afternoon Tea experiences we have ever had and we've had a good few! Everything was perfect, from the exceptionally tasty food, beautiful atmosphere and the cutest china to the immaculate service!

Domestic Goddess: My Favourite Quirky Cookbooks

Quirky-Cookbooks1.jpg

Quirky Cookbooks

Now I'm far from a domestic goddess but every now and then I summon up my inner Martha Stewart and take to the kitchen to create some culinary masterpieces. I adore cookbooks; as in I'll sit on the couch and flick through them looking at all the gorgeous food photography (that's normal, right...?!) Here are just a few of my very favourite slightly quirky cookbooks, lovely to look at, lovely coffee table books and make such beautiful gifts for any foodie...

Clockwise from top: Primrose Bakery Cookbook, Homegrown Harvest, Eat Like a Man, Primal Cravings

The Primrose Bakery Book

For quirky sweet treats from Nutella cupcakes to Friands, The Primrose Bakery Book has some great ideas to get your sugar fix not to mention the most beautiful food photography.

Homegrown Harvest

If organic is you thing, Homegrown Harvest is a collection of comfort food recipes, the idea being all the ingredients are ones which you can grow in your windowbox, garden or allotment. All very Avoca-esque, it's a lovely read (available at Avoca).

Eat Like a Man

Now truth be told, this was bought as a Christmas stocking filler for himself with an agenda (as in 'look what I got you/me'!) Published by Esquire, Eat Like a Man is what you'd imagine; meat, meat and more meat! As a steak enthusiast this sits well with me, also a great one to have on hand come barbecue season.

Primal Cravings

I'm a big believer in staying fit and eating right, and although I can safely say I'll never fully subscribe to a rigid eating regime, I love the whole clean eating principles of the Paleo Diet (aka The Caveman Diet- essentially cutting out processed foods). Primal Cravings is guide to creating delicious nutrient dense fast-food style favourites but with health benefits to boot!

Skyn Iceland Skin Hangover Kit

Skyn Iceland Skin Hangover KitNot sure about you, but if I have had a few drinks or a late night it shows on my face the next morning... a lot! I don't only have the traditional dark circles under my eyes but my whole face puffs up. It also happens when I'm sick or at that time of the month. To combat this pretty nasty condition I usually go with a flannel cloth and ice cold water. If it's very bad I'll resort to these gel masks that are kept in the fridge and lie down on the couch with it on for a few minutes. It works nicely for reducing puffiness but I quite like the idea of hydrating and replenishing skincare products. I have been using the Skyn Iceland Hydro Firming Eye Gels for a long time now (a lot of makeup artists carry them in their kit, they come in handy when your model or bride has had a sleepless night). When I was in M&S last week I discovered this little Skin Hangover Kit that includes  the Eye Gels and few other hangover rescue goodies for your skin.Skyn Iceland Skin Hangover Kit

The kit includes 2 packs of the Eye Gels (they firm up the under-eye area, combat puffiness and dark circles), a full size Icelandic Relief Eye Pen (light eye cream providing relief to a puffy and tired under-eye area), a Cooling Daily Lotion (gorgeous lightweight cooling facial moisturiser that hydrates and detoxifies stressed skin) and a Arctic Face Mist (a multivitamin face mist that replenishes stressed and thirsty skin).

Cult product: Skyn Iceland Eye Gels

Skyn Iceland is a paraben-free, natural brand with cosmetics specifically designed to combat the ailments of stressed skin, a brand well worth checking out! This kit is now part of my little emergency stash of products I whip out when my skin is having a freakout.

Skyn Iceland products are available from Marks & Spencer. The Skin Hangover Kit comes in at €24 in Ireland, £17.50 in the UK. I think it makes a fabulous stocking filler for Christmas, when hangovers, skin or otherwise, will be a constant occurrence, I'm sure.

You can buy the Skin Hangover Kit here.
