Edible Christmas Tree Decorations

Christmas CookiesI make these every year, I love that they fill the whole room with this gingerbread / cinnamon cookie smell. They also look extremely beautiful on the tree! The recipe is very simple, it's from Nigella Lawson's Christmas Cookbook. I make it in my KitchenAid mixer but you could just as well use a food mixer. You will need:

300 g plain flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon mixed spice a little bit of ground black pepper 100 g soft butter 100 g golden caster sugar 2 large eggs beaten with 4 tablespoons of runny honey

instant royal icing

Preheat your oven to 170 degrees C. To make the dough mix the flour and spices together in your food mixer and then add the soft butter. Then tip in the sugar and slowly add the egg and honey mix. The dough will come together after a while. When it's combined wrap it in some cling film and let it chill in the fridge for a while. After about 15 min take out the dough, roll out and cut out with your favourite cookie cutters.Christmas CookiesChristmas CookiesChristmas CookiesChristmas CookiesWhen you've cut out your shapes make a little hole with a round icing nozzle if you want to hang the cookies on the tree.Christmas Cookies

Then bake for about 15 - 20 min (keep checking, it all depends on your oven!!) When they come out of the oven place the cookies on a cooling rack, they will cool down very quickly. Once cool you can start icing them (for the royal icing follow instructions on the packet). I use just a little bit of white icing and edible glitter to decorate my snowflakes but you can ice these with whatever icing you like.Christmas Cookies Christmas Cookies

They are really fun to do with kids and really easy and stress free to make! And they taste delicious!!!

Happy Christmas!!!!

Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle

Essie Hors D'OeuvresIt finally arrived!!! I ordered a new Essie nail polish a while ago and it arrived last week. I'm not sure if you have already noticed but I am a bit of a magpie and love all that glitters - so this nail polish is a dream come true to me! Without further ado here it is: Essie's Hors D'oeuvres. It is a glitter polish with fine golden glitter and larger silver glitter particles mixed together - perfection!

This baby comes from Essie's latest Encrusted collection. There is six very pretty glitters in the collection but Hors D'oeuvres has caught my eye straight away. I love the combination of gold and silver (my Christmas tree is proof of that!) and it looks absolutely fabulous on the nails. Encrusted is the perfect word to describe it! My nails are very sparkly and the differently sized glitter particles give the colour lots of dimension (sorry for the weird hand shot below, I'm really not the biggest fan of my hands.... )Essie Hors D'Oeuvres

I am absolutely in love with this nail polish and will be wearing it throughout the festive season. As far as I know, this collection has launched in early December in the UK but I haven't seen any trace of it here in Ireland. I ordered mine through Amazon and it arrived within a week. If you are into glitter polishes this is definitely one to check out, one of the most beautiful ones I own!

I bought my polish here for Β£8.90.
