Beach Babe Hair Essentials

Hair is without doubt the biggest of all the beauty chores in my book. I've long hair that's naturally quite curly - actually they're more voluminous waves than curls. Literally the only thing that will pry my heat styling tools out of my clammy overworked hands is a dip in salty sea water. The magical properties of sea water are something I've found hard to recreate in the overcast 'burbs of Dublin, but Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray is about as close as you can get.

Divide wet hair into sections and create twists with each section (just using your fingers, no fancy tools needed) and spritz with this Bumble & Bumble gem before leaving hair to air dry. Easy. It's also one I pack into my suitcase to give a little beachy-oomph to hair post beach before heading for an evening of Pina Coladas.

This 50ml travel bottle is perfect for travelling or even just trialing if you don't want to fork out for the full size without giving it a shot on your own hair first. Available from larger Boots stores for a bargain of €13.50.

There are two kinds of girls in the world; those who wash their hair everyday, and the rest of us. I sit firmly on team dry shampoo for many reasons. Firstly the time involved in getting my hair from wet to publicly acceptable takes much to long to work into my daily routine. Secondly there is bleach in my hair and I heat style, so the less I traumatise my tresses with my Babyliss Big Hair, the better. And finally, my hair actually genuinely looks better when not freshly washed. Dirty hair, don't care... literally.

I discovered Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder Dry Shampoo on a recent trip to New York, where the stateside electrical current gives my hairdryer all the powder of a public toilet hand-dryer. This is pretty fancy for a dry shampoo, in a gorgeous iridescent gold that is perfect for blondes. It also doubles up brilliantly as a backcombing powder to add a little volume and texture. Ideal if beachy waves are the goal, but sleek straight hair is the reality (in which case I hate you). I got mine in Sephora, but the larger 56g bottle is available from Boots online, €28.90.

Finally the latest addition to my beach hair essentials is Evolve Nourishing Hair Elixir, €21.50 from Evolve Beauty. This stuff is full of natural argan and baobab oils, and smells just gorgeous. Tread lightly here, 3-4 drops is more than enough - I got over-enthusiastic my first use and the result was a little on the oil-slick side.

A couple of drops will make a noticeable difference to sun damaged hair, adding nourishment which really helps keep frizz at bay. Essential when defining a wave or curl when creating or recreating beach babe hair. What are you favourite summer hair products?

New Fave: Remington Silk Ultimate Styler

My New Fave Hair Tool: Remington Silk Ultimate Styler

Some people are just amazing at doing all kinds of hair styles with their straighteners... I am not one of those people! For me a good hair day is mostly a matter of luck and more recently also an easy to use hair tool! I've been using the Remington Silk Ultimate Styler and I've been loving it!

My go to hairstyle is a messy / beachy wave. Or at least that's what I'm going for! I'm not one to spend ages on my hair and my routine involves only blowdrying my hair quite messy and then putting in a few random curls here and there to turn it from scary crazy scientist hair into more of a cool & effortless look.

Messy hairMy New Fave Hair Tool: Remington Silk Ultimate StylerFirst of all it heats up to 230 degrees* in a matter of seconds! No waiting around, which is crucial when you do your hair in the morning. The Styler is slightly funky looking, with it's split barrel, but that's exactly what allows you to create beautiful loose curls and waves without kinking your hair. I've tried so many times to use my straighteners to curl my hair and I end up just getting frustrated and with the straighteners ultimately caught in my hair. The Silk Styler is the perfect solution if, like me, you are not a pro and prefer something foolproof and versatile.

My New Fave Hair Tool: Remington Silk Ultimate Styler You can also use the styler as a traditional hair curler by taking off the ribbon curl sleeve and wrapping your hair around the barrel. It's also amazing at smoothing over frizzy hair - it doesn't quite give you that poker straight look but is perfect if you want to get rid of frizz and flyaways and leaves your hair super smooth and shiny.

My New Fave Hair Tool: Remington Silk Ultimate Styler

The barrel is 25mm which is perfect for me but if you prefer bigger curls or your hair is very long it may not be for you... but as I said, this is a matter of preference.

*If you're styling your hair with a heat tool make sure you always remember a heat protectant as you are treating your hair to some really high temperatures here!

At €59.99 the Remington Ultimate Styler is quite affordable and available pharmacies & electrical retailers.

I am by no means a pro at doing my hair but this tool has made it so much easier and quicker for me! Next week I will show it in action in a little video so stay tuned for that!

Favourite 3: The Best Big Hair Products

Favourite 3: The Best Big Hair Products

I know that may sound a bit odd but I can't stand the look of my hair when it's freshly washed! My favourite hair look is a big sexy do that is full of texture and looks like you did not spend any time at all on it (even though, more than likely, it rook 5 products, 2 different tools and about 25 minutes in front of the mirror).

Favourite 3: The Best Big Hair Products

The effortless look actually takes quite a bit of effort but because I lack in patience when it comes to standing in front of a mirror for ages I rely on the help of some crafty products that give me the look with minimal use of appliances and some serious time savings!

One of my all time favourite products that I never want to be without is the TIGI Queen For A Day Thickening Spray (it's a mouthful!). I hate using mousse, it gives me a weird crispy and sticky finish but the TIGI Thickening Spray is a great alternative! It's a completely clear mist that you spray into the roots of damp hair for instant volume, body and lift. The only thing I would say here, a little goes a long way! You can definitely overdo it so don't go overboard! After you've applied this you just blowdry your hair as normal.

Once my hair is dried I sometimes put a few random curls in it, if I feel like it and have the additional time but most of the time I just leave it naturally wavy. Once it's all dry I put a little of dry shampoo through it. The one I swear by is the COLAB Sheer + Invisible Dry Shampoo by Ruth Crilly (aka A Model Recommends), it truly is the best one I've ever tried (and I've tried lots)! It really is completely invisible, smells lovely and most importantly, doesn't irritate my scalp! It just gives my hair that little extra oomph. The only pain is that lately it's been a little hard to get here in Ireland.

Last but not least I add a tiny bit of the TIGI Joyride Texturising Powder Balm*. It's an odd product that I couldn't get my head around the first few times I've used it but it's now a staple in my hair styling routine. It's one of those products that literally take the fluffiness out of freshly washed hair and give it that sexy, slept-in, second day hair look (similar effect to Bumble & Bumble Briliantine, which I also love!) - very Kate Moss.

What are your favourite hair products?

Big Step: Finally Getting the Chop

Big Step: Finally Getting the ChopSo... I have been talking about getting my hair cut forever now and finally the day has come! I manned up, just got it done and I love it! My hair was very long and damaged with very knotty, dry ends. It just didn't look good anymore.

Big Step: Finally Getting the Chop

I got my hair cut by the lovely Amanda in Sugar Cubed in Dublin. I love the salon - amazing decor, atmosphere and the service is fantastic. I absolutely love my new hair, it looks so much healthier and feels so light. I am looking forward to drying my hair not taking hours anymore!

So, a short (excuse the pun) and sweet one for you today... Hope you like my new hair! ;)

My First Chic Treat Club Box

Chic Treat ClubIt's arrived!!! My first ever Chic Treat Club Box is here! In case you didn't know, Chic Treat Club is a new Irish beauty subscription box, something like Glossybox or Birchbox - you may have heard of these. How does it work? Basically, you subscribe on their website (you have the choice of a 3, 6 or 12 month option) and you get a lovely box of goodies sent to your house (or work, or wherever, really)! I loved getting this fabulously packaged box in the post, it feels like receiving a present!

So, without further ado, here are the contents of the January box...Chic Treat ClubA very nice start indeed. We have a Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Wash and Rinse (which I am very excited to try), an Episilk Premium Lip Balm, a Wet n Wild Thickening Mascara (Wet n Wild have recently launched their make-up in Dunnes Stores in Ireland!!), Kiss Nail Wraps and a Pure Argan Hand & Nail Cream.

So far I have tried the Lip Balm and I do quite like it. It is a very basic,  nor frills, no funky taste lip balm that contains a multitude of great ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, shea butter, cocoa butter and aloe. Also, the pot is absolutely huge so I expect it will last me forever, at the very least! ; )

I haven't tried anything else just yet but will let you know how I get on with the rest of the products. I am really impressed with this box, lots of full sized products and a nice mix between beauty, haircare & skincare.

Are you subscribed to any beauty boxes? Let me know which one is your favourite. If you like the look of this one & fancy treating yourself to some pampering check out the Chic Treat Club website!

Get This...

I just disovered my latest miracle hair treatment that I cannot recommend enough, sad to think this little gem had fallen beneath the radar and was sitting under my nose since a glossybox delivery over six months ago... image

Biosilk Silk Therapy is amazing stuff. Having gotten use to the gorgeous scent of Morrocan Oil (Im afraid I might actually drink it one of these days) I was a little put off by the chemical smell of Biosilk but a few drops worked through damp hair before styling and the finish is noticeably much better and not just by me (I even got a 'are you wearing hair extensions?' the next day...!) There's a gorgeous softness that it gives together with a really a glossy finish- never easy to achieve on blonde hair AND (icing on the cake here) it's apparantly the choice haircare brand of Miss Universe peace anyone?!
