90's Style Throwback: Penneys Badges

90's Style Throwback: Penneys Badges

Penneys / Primark is my absolutely favourite place to shop in for trendy pieces (and everything else, who am I kidding?) You can get really cool, quirky clothes and accessories that won't break the bank and you won't feel bad indulging into a little bit of a trend-based purchase. Accessorizing with pin badges is my latest obsessions and the ones from Penneys / Primark are just the cutest!

Badges like these are the quickest and easiest way to jazz up some plain clothes and give them a bit of playful edge! They look really cool pinned to a shirt, t-shirt, bomber, military jacket or backpack! The possibilities are endless!

There are two different styles currently available: one with a slight military look (very sleek) and a more playful pink one - I adore both! At just €4 each they are a steal & definitely worth picking up.

Tee Party: Style Basics

  penneys_811211065980620

So Anna Wintour was spotted this week at Marc Jacobs NYFW show in a t-shirt and, political agenda aside, I'm all about it. The humble t-shirt is an underestimated style basic in my book and now getting the airspace it deserves. T-shirts, preferably of the vintage soft cotton or plain V-neck variety, are a wardrobe staple for me and have been for a long time. This is partially down to the fact I just love wearing anything made from soft brushed cotton, and partially because I'm lazy and they're such an easy building block to understated style.

Give me a slightly oversized V-neck tee with ripped skinny jeans, a pair of new balance and a wool duster coat and I'm all set for casual day to day wear. Take that same tee, teamed up with a leather pencil skirt and ankle boots for the perfect understated outfit when the sun goes down. One of my most worn items ever, is a grey, slightly oversized v-neck tee that cost all of ten euro.

The style guru’s over at Penney’s have only gone and worked their magic again, with the most gorgeous collection of vintage & retro inspired soft raglan t-shirts in stores at the minute. H&M also have some great reasonably priced cute slogan tee's and if you're strictly an online shopping girl then check out what Brandy Melville are up to in the t-shirt department (these guys do the softest brushed cotton oversized options). Perfect as the weather gets a little warmer or under a leather biker jacket come festival season. High-street favorites right now are looking something like this:

Striped black & white crop t-shirt, €4.00, Penney's

Burnt orange v-neck t-shirt,  €10.00, H&M

'My Everyday T-shirt',  €10.00, H&M

Home Style: My Favourite Coffee Table Books

I'm a sucker for a good coffee table book! I have them dotted around my home, in the sitting room, office & on my bedside table, they are the perfect source of inspiration for when I'm feeling a bit down and unmotivated. I have recently picked up (or received in way of presents) a few new ones that have taken centre stage on my coffee table.

How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are by Anne Berest, Caroline De Maigret, Audrey Diwan and Sophie Mas

This is not only a beautifully edited book but actually a fantastic read! I'm a self-confessed Francophile and obsessed with all things Parisian... be it skincare, fashion, lifestyle or food, I love it all! The book covers everything from how to be a Parisian mum to throwing the perfect, laid back French dinner party. It is everything that encompasses being Parisian for me: chic effortlessness and style.

Her latest, Cupcakes & Cashmere At Home, is as the name would suggest centred around creating a beautiful space & lifestyle. Emily's style, especially when it comes to interiors, is right up my alley! If you enjoy beautifully decorated spaces and curated lifestyle content make sure to check out this publication.

Decorate With Flowers by Holly Becker and Leslie Shewring

Holly Becker is my guru when it comes to interior design, I own all of her books and am also a regular reader of her blog Decor8. Her latest book is all about enhancing your living space with blooms, which is something I can definitely get behind! I love flowers and just flicking through this beauty makes me feel miles better on a rainy afternoon! The book is filled with beautiful photos of flowers, arrangements & DIYs.

Face Paint by Lisa Eldridge

This is a book that I was dying to get my hands on as soon as I heard that it was in the works... I adore Lisa Eldridge, she is a true artist and an incredibly inspirational woman. I am a makeup geek and as much as I love playing round with makeup, finding out about it's origins, history & social meaning is just as exciting to me! It truly is a very different book to anything that has been released by any other makeup artist! It's an absolutely fabulous read so if you are interested in makeup it should be top of your reading list!

I couldn't imagine a more relaxing Saturday afternoon than sitting down with a cup of tea and flicking through these absolutely gorgeous books! What are your favourite coffee table books?

Style file: Tee’s & Pencil Skirts

T-shirts & Pencil Skirts, How to style pencil skirts | pencil skirt styling | Pink Elephant BlogI love pencil skirts. There are few items of clothing that effortlessly give pretty much everyone that gorgeous feminine silhouette, and they’ve come a long way since being the better half of a shoulder-padded power-suit combo a la Working Girl (that backcombing though!). Oxblood pleather (or leather if feeling spendy), black lace and silver sequin are a few featuring heavily on the high-street right now, and ones I’ve invested in over the past year.

T-shirts & Pencil Skirts, How to style pencil skirts | pencil skirt styling | Pink Elephant Blog

If you spend the best part of your day 9-5ing it in corporate land, then chances are the pencil skirt is a solid staple in your wardrobe, but the beauty of these updated combo’s in leather and whatnot, is just how cool they look styled up with a relaxed t-shirt.

We’re obvious Francophiles and there’s something very Parisian chic about the classic hourglass pencil skirt shape mixed up with an unshapely casual tee. It’s something similar to the perfect red lip with messy undone hair, Parisian perfection!

A few of my favorite combos above from left to right: Grey Marl Tee €5.50 (reduced) H&M | Oxblood pleather pencil skirt,  €57 Warehouse | Sequins Paris Tee  €25 River Island | Grey Suede Effect Skirt  €43 River Island | Charcoal soft cotton tee,  €17.76 H&M | Embellished Pencil Skirt  €42  (reduced) River Island.

Apartment Therapy: Autumn Accents

titlepic

As the days get shorter and evenings a little longer, there’s a seasonal change novelty factor to oversized scarves, knitwear binges and loungewear of the snuggly variety. My inner hermit takes over this time of year and I love nothing more than cosying up indoors. I’ll still guilt trip myself into the occasional Saturday morning run in exchange for farmers market coffee & cake (gluten free, doesn’t count) but if presented with my social options for an evening’s entertainment, staying in will win hands down.

I’m all too aware that the autumnal novelty of new fluffy white slipper booties and hot drinks will hit a turning point, usually somewhere around mid-winter, and be replaced with loathing the necessity to layer up for practicalities sake, together with a general disdain for anything less than tropical temperatures as I watch my icy fingertips turn a purplish-blue.

But for now, while the temperatures are gradually leaning toward the cool side and the novelty of new knitwear lines on the high-street is still fresh, I’m embracing all things autumnal starting with our living space. I love to add seasonal accents to our living space, which takes on a much grander scale come silly season. I love to dress a space with chunky soft furnishings to warm it up and in the absence of a fireplace (sad face) I use a lot of lanterns and candles. I tend to move away from bright colour’s as we leave summer behind and love more earthy tones and neutrals. Here are a few of my favourites right now:

Autumn Details: Berry Lips

Autumn-Details1.jpg

Autumn Details: Topshop Lipstick in Beguiled

I'm a huge fan of a statement lip any time of year but my  favourite way is to wear it is really casually - with a T-shirt or cool coat & scarf. There is just something super chic and effortless about it...

Autumn Details

I absolutely love my reds but for some time now I have been gravitating to a deep & dark berry lip, especially during the colder months. One of my all time favourites is MAC's Rebel. It's a beautiful plum colour that can be layered on quite heavily or what I like to do is to dab on a light layer and smudge out the lip line for a super soft & casual look.

My new lipstick love however is a lipstick I recently picked up from Top Shop. It comes in beautifier gold & white packaging (they really had me at gold...) and the shade is called Beguiled. It's also a deep berry shade with a slightly redder undertone than Rebel. The formula is similar to Rebel, I would call it a moisturising matte. It lasts for a long time and feels very comfortable on the lips.

I definitely want to try out a few more Top Shop lipsticks, I have my eye on the shades Wicked & Inhibition.

What are your favourite lipsticks for autumn?

Stationary Geek: Objects of Desire

Stationary-Geek3.jpg

61gwjqUJZdL__SX450_

It’s back to school time! Which means nothing to me except for outstandingly heavy traffic this week. I’ve long since sat in a classroom and don’t yet have any little people in tiny uniforms with Spiderman backpacks. I do however have an unexplainable stationary habit. I mean its borderline worrying. I think nothing of price-tags that rival clothes for a gold polkadot planner or cleverly captioned pencil case (and yes I know nobody over college-going age actually needs a pencil case, admittedly this is an unreasonable want on my part).

I take comfort in the fact that clearly I’m not alone here. The likes of Kate Spade and Ban.do have cashed in on my weak spot with their ridiculously beautiful (and in the case of Kate Spade horrifically expensive) grown-up stationary, which extends to workplace essentials like travel mugs and gold staplers, not to mention the occasional Parisian-inspired porcelain ‘catch-all’. My current favorites are looking a little like this…

Stationary Geek

(Clockwise from top left)

Kate Spade ‘Cold Hands, Warm Heart Travel Mug, €26.00, available at Avoca

BAN.DO ‘Petit Secrets’ Catch-all Porcelain tray, €28.00, Hippenings.com

Delusional Pouch, €19.00, My Shining Armour

Ban.do Sweet Talk Pens, €19.50,  Hippenings.com

Kate Spade Home Desk Organization Tackle Box, €41.00 (approx), Amazon UK

KATE SPADE 2016 17-Month Large Agenda - €46.00, My Shining Armour

Autumn Lookbook: Boohoo AW15 Collection

Boohoo-AW15.jpg

Boohoo AW15 LookbookBoohoo AW15 Lookbook

It’s still Summer- just. Meaning our minds are firmly on the beauty that is Autumn dressing. I remain firmly on team Autumn when it comes to seasonal favorite’s, we almost always get our best weather in Autumn, I get to celebrate my Birthday (I’ve the excitement of a seven year old when it comes to my birthday) and AW lines roll out along the high-street, which if we’re completely honest are always the best collections. Boohoo AW15 Lookbook

I don’t even harbour any bitterness about our non-summer come this time of year. Once I catch of glimpse of brown tall leather boots and knit capes in stores, I’m over summer. Boohoo have featured on our radar the past few seasons, and with an AW15 collection full of gorgeous layered silhouettes, softer than expected palettes and what’s likely to be the last of the denim trend, it makes for some perfect seasonal wardrobe updates at this time of year. Here’s a few lookbook favourites…
